Mid State Trail 2014

I went out this past weekend with my friend Brian and his son Erik for a 3 day trip.  We parked at a scout camp off 322 near Po Paddy State Park.  we hiked about 5k to get to the trail head on 322.  We then hiked 40km plus side trips for water.  I would estimate a total of 50 km.  It was a challenging trail with plenty of rocks.  MST had next to no switch backs.  Straight up and straight down on rock terrain made for some tough hiking.  We had a blast.

Friday night we sat by the camp fire and gazed at the stars.  We were so exhausted we hick the sack around 8pm.  We had no idea it was going to rain Friday night.  The weather forecast was for a clear weekend.  Saturday morning we packed up wet gear and hit the trail.  It rained on an off all day and started to turn colder.  That evening after dinner we all went to bed early.  Not because we were exhausted like Friday Night, but we needed to get warm in our sleeping bags.

Sunday morning we again woke to wet gear and cold.  My thermometer read 30 degrees F.  We were so cold we broke camp and hit the trail without breakfast, just to get warm.  We stopped for brunch on the lee side of a mountain to get out of the wind and make pancakes and bacon.  We had a blast.
